Pen culling.

I’m having a terrible time not being able to make art lately. It’s worse than sexual frustration.I have been taking a lot of photos, writing down ideas, sketching..But that still doesn’t really hit the spot.

I have fifty-odd pens I have to go through tonight, to work out which ones are just too dry to bring with me. See, I collect a lot of felt tip pens. From .005, to 0.1, 0.2, 0.5 and 0.8′s.. And I have several of these, especially the .005′s. I do this as I like to keep them at a certain point of use. Newer ones so the ink is blacker, not so new ones so I can get more grey tones out of them. Then there’s the ones on the brink of death that are marvelous for shading in delicate details such as eyeballs and the like.
But, of course, this system does get out of control and I have to cull every now and again. So here I am, my second cull this year. My last one was just before I moved here from Melbourne.
I of course, have left this job to last, as I hate throwing my pens away. But I am thinking with the amount I use, I should really be contacting one of these companies and seeing if I can get some kind of sponsorship from them.. But I think I need to become a little bit more ‘important’ before that happens.
Another thing about (my) pens, I hate it when people use them to write shopping lists with.
I have to get rid of some clothes and such too, as I have really nice paints and I refuse to part with them.

Anyway, now I am procrastinating. So I best get to it.

Over and out.

i would love to hear more about your pens. youtube? (hint hint) :)
do you categorize them somehow? a colored piece of tape or a different cup to keep them in?
I love the idea about the sponsorship of pen companies. that's a great idea!!! maybe they can help with a show and you can display their banner or have their logo on your catalog, price list, invitations. or maybe you can donate a work for the company lobby or board room. keep that idea alive. it's a good one.

  2. I'll try, got to work out a way to approach them where they will take me seriously though.

I would you tube (well, vimeo) but I don't have a camera. My house mate does though, maybe I'll think about it.
